Instructions

How to Make Savory Comforting Ground Beef Casserole Potatoes

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch casserole dish with nonstick spray or a bit of butter.
  • In a spacious skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until it’s fully browned, about 8-10 minutes. Drain any excess fat, then stir in the diced onion and cook until it becomes soft and fragrant.
  • Peel and chop the Yukon Gold potatoes into even cubes. Place them in a pot of salted water and boil until fork-tender, approximately 15 minutes. Once done, drain them well.
  • Return the drained potatoes to the pot. Add in milk, butter, salt, garlic powder, and half of the shredded cheddar cheese. Mash until creamy, leaving some chunks for texture.
  • Spread half of the mashed potatoes at the bottom of the greased casserole dish. Layer the cooked ground beef mixture evenly on top. Spoon the remaining mashed potatoes over the beef layer.
  • Generously sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese on top of the casserole.
  • Cover the casserole with foil and bake it in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Then remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  • Allow the casserole to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for best flavor revival.
